Factory hollow mill, route 85, Hebron - Located in Gay City STate park

PictureMill site remnants
Waterway: Blackledge River

Water power: Reported to be an overshot wheel.
Site configuration supports an overshot wheel.

Mill type: Wool mill. Saw mill early.

History: Wool mill began operations circa 1810 under William Strong but failed in 1812. Heny P. Sumner took control and operated it as the Lafayette Manufacturing Company until it burned in 1830.

Site Characteristics: The mill was a large off-stream site located on the east side of Blackledge River. Water was directed to the mill for power from a long race from Still Pond a short distance above the existing Gay City swimming pond, a later generation pond. Remnants remaining include building foundations, head race, tail race, and wheel pit.
