History: The mill was constructed sometime in the early to mid 1800s by Daniel E. Benton who operated a saw mill on site. The property was sold to Alden B. Crandall, who with his son Edwin, had a large overshot wheel constructed in 1878 to supply power for his grist mill. Lumber was still cut into the early 1900s and Howard Crandall, grandson of Alden Crandall, was still producing cider until circa 1940. The pond is a Town park and swimming facility today after the Town relocated and reconstructed the dam.
Site Characteristics: Little evidence of the operational characteristic of the site remain today as the town relocated the dam closer to the natural stream bed and created an expanded beach facility in the creation of a town park.
